ST. JOHN’S, NL & ORLANDO, FL — The North American Space Institute (NASI) announced today that Chief Executive Officer Michael Graham will speak at the upcoming seminar, “Future Work: Training and Skills-Next Generation Workers and Organizations,” hosted by Human Factors in Control (HFC) Canada at the Bally Haly Country Club in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Organized by the HFC Canada Network, an initiative led by the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University and funded by Energy Research & Innovation Newfoundland and Labrador (ERINL), the seminar gathers experts across aerospace, maritime, medical, and offshore energy sectors. The forum addresses how safety critical industries must adapt human performance methodologies to keep pace with rapid technological acceleration, increased autonomy, and evolving operational risks.
Graham’s presentation, titled “Academics and Experience: Understanding the difference how it enables dynamism and innovation,” will address a systemic challenge facing high-reliability supply chains: the operational gap between theoretical academic qualification and hands-on procedural mastery.
As former Canadian Space Agency (CSA) technical personnel, Graham has spearheaded NASI’s mandate as the continental system of record for space workforce readiness. During his address, he will demonstrate how cross-sector safety critical industries can bridge the talent bottleneck by adopting standardized, competency based accreditation frameworks rather than relying exclusively on long-cycle academic degrees.
NASI’s infrastructure model directly addresses this imperative across North America. By unifying Canadian technical precision with American scale through its alignment with CCAA standards and U.S. DoD 8140 cyber and workforce frameworks, NASI provides the industrial base with standardized, VR enabled training methodologies. Deployable through assets like OrbitLab Mobile Units, this model delivers simulated cleanroom and launch processing environments directly to high-growth industrial corridors, ensuring workforce agility without requiring massive physical capital expenditure.
The Future Work: Training and Skills seminar is open to industry stakeholders, technical executives, and policy makers committed to elevating safety standards and workforce capability in ocean, defense, and aerospace operations.
